TEAM SYNOPSIS

CPHS Robotics aims to promote the development of STEAM education in the Austin area by competing in the FIRST High School Robotics Competitions. Involved students will learn essential skills in engineering design, mechanics, electronics, programming, business, and marketing through rigorous hands-on projects. Our end goal is to design and construct an effective robot each year to play an intense sports-like game which in the past has involved the handling, placing, and launching of objects such as basketballs, frisbees, soccer balls, and other sporting equipment. Robots will compete with each other in direct contact-heavy matches at the local, state, and even global level. The arrival of the FIRST program at our school marked the rise of interest in robotics from the community. At last, students with interests in STEAM were given the opportunity to join a program where they could hone their respective skills. In our school district, there were not any robotics teams at the level of FRC. Though there may have been other programs, none are as all encompassing and challenging as the FRC program which we are now fully engaged in. We hope to raise awareness of the importance of STEAM education and directly prepare community members for STEAM careers.

The RoboLobos were founded in 2013 by two very dedicated 12th graders. Gabe and Shane had both participated in VEX for two years before they came up with the idea to start an official CPHS robotics team. Many people had been skeptical of their idea because Leander Independent School District had never had an FRC team, so they were unsure of what to expect. Persistent as ever, the two friends convinced the school, and the school district, that a FRC team would turn into something great. In the beginning no one was totally sure what they were doing; many people came and went, but in the end, they ended up bringing together a family of 17 students ready to tackle the improbable.
